During my dietetic internship I completed 1,264 supervised practice hours including 17 weeks operating in clinical settings, 11 weeks in food service, 3 weeks in a community setting, and 4 weeks of a pediatric capstone clinical & customer service rotation. I also completed 8 hours of graduate coursework in addition to completing the supervised practice hours.
I work around 30 hours a week at the Indiana University Memorial Stadium. As a Performance Nutrition Assistant, I work alongside 3 Registered Dietitians assisting them with the 24 sports at Indiana University. My main responsibilities include daily restocking of fueling stations located in the weight room and football locker rooms, making protein smoothies for all athletes, keeping inventory of supplements, creating social media posts such as weekly ads and healthy dining out options. Also, creating informational and motivational posters regarding fueling and basic nutrition needs. This position with IU athletics has been extremely rewarding and has helped me to develop a passion for sports dietetics and an extreme appreciation for this profession.
As an active member of The Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics at Indiana University (SAND-IU), I collaborate with other registered dietitians on IU's campus and in Bloomington, volunteering my time to the community and other campus organizations. Additionally, as an upperclassman in the dietetics program at IU, I have the opportunity to mentor underclassmen which gives me the opportunity to broaden my experiences, knowledge, and networks in the field of nutrition and dietetics.
As a member of Habitat for Humanity at IU, I participated in several homes builds in Monroe Country. I was also part of the fundraising committee where I attended fundraising events and also designed posters and flyers that were displayed and advertised in buildings around IU's campus. Not only was I able to give back to the community that I love, but it allowed me to develop a new perspective on community service. I volunteered with peers and future habitat homeowners, where I strengthened my social skills and teamwork abilities. More importantly, I developed compassion and awareness for those who are seeking a helping hand to better their own lives and that of their families.
